One World Mindfulness was born out of necessity in 2020, as it became clear that the Pandemic was going to extend much longer than many had imagined.  Retreat Centers around the world had closed to in-person retreats, and online gatherings became the only outlet for creating community and coming together to meditate.

Although online retreats were not totally new, there was a need for traditional Insight Meditation retreats in an online format that could hold a 'container' for practice that simulated more closely the experience that an in-person retreat created, and that could function as a 'pre-qualifying' requirement for teacher-training programs like Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach's Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program (MMTCP) and others.

One World Mindfulness set out to develop an online retreat experience that could recreate the intensive practice 'container' of an in-person retreat, similar to what one would encounter at Centers like Spirit Rock Meditation Center and the Insight Meditation Society; including live teaching and group practice sessions, and opportunities to receive personalized feedback and to interact with teachers.  One World Mindfulness additionally takes on the responsibility for tracking attendance and setting up a full 'retreat container' that might otherwise be lost in an online experience; especially for those new to Insight Meditation retreats. The flexible, 'modular' style of retreat also serves to support participants in time-zones around the world.

While initially developed to support those needing a particular kind of retreat experience; the One World Mindfulness retreat format also supports those not needing an intensive retreat and/or for those who would like to receive 'credit' for participation as professional training. Based on its flexible model it can be utilized by anyone wishing to integrate deepening practice in a variety of situations, supported by experienced Dharma teachers in the Insight Meditation tradition. Our retreats offer four, two-hour teacher-led modules spaced throughout the day, each serving as a stand-alone practice experience, any number of modules can be integrated into an at-home practice; this also allows individuals in various time-zones to participate at the times that work for them without missing out on important content and the community experience.
