Bonnie Duran

Bonnie Duran met the Dharma in 1982 when she sat a month at Kopan Monastery in Nepal and learned Vipassana in Bodh Gaya, India. Since then, she has taken teachings from many western teachers including Joseph Goldstein and Marcia Rose, as well as Tibetan teachers, Venerable Tsoknyi Rinpoche and Lama Zopa Rinpoche. She is additionally involved in Native American spiritual practices and traditions

 

Bonnie teaches at Insight Meditation Society and Spirit Rock Meditation Center and is a core-teacher of the IMS Teacher Training Program and the SRMC Dedicated Practioners Program 6. She serves as a Professor in the Schools of Social Work and Public Health at the University of Washington, and as the Director of the Center for Indigenous Health Research at the Indigenous Wellness Research Institute.

Bonnie is a contributor to Hilda Guitierrez Baldoquin's book, Dharma, Color and Culture: New Voices in Western Buddhism and has written for the Harvard Divinity Bulletin, and the Turning Wheel.

Howard Cohn

Howard Cohn is one of the founding teachers of Spirit Rock Meditation Center, and has led the Mission Dharma sitting group in San Francisco for over 30 years. He has practiced meditation since 1972 and has led vipassana retreats since 1985.  He is known by his students for his kindheartedness and warm sense of humor.

Howie has studied with Asian and western teachers of several traditions, including Theravada, Zen, Dzogchen and Advaita Vedanta, and has been strongly influenced by contact with the Indian master H.W.L. Poonja. He has done postgraduate work in East/West Psychology and has a private counseling practice.

Howie is the author of the book, Invitation to Meditation: How to Find Peace Wherever You Are; an accessible and deeply resonant teaching offered in a beginner friendly, jargon-less, format, that weaves the experience of meditation directly into the reading.

Genevieve Tregor

Genevieve is the founding teacher of Insight Meditation Scottsdale in the Greater Phoenix Metropolitan Area in Arizona; as well as Solution Mindfulness, through which she offers Mindfulness training to a wider audience, including healthcare providers, in a secular context. She mentors individuals and provides classes, workshops and retreats with both Buddhist and secular approaches to practice. She was hand-selected by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach to serve on the faculty for their International Mindfulness Meditation Teacher Certification Program


Genevieve has practiced Mindfulness under senior Western and Monastic Teachers in the Insight Tradition, and has undertaken multiple long-term dedicated practice periods totaling nearly 1.5 years in intensive, silent retreat conditions exploring the depths of Mindfulness. 


She holds a M.S. in Kinesiology and has worked in public health, healthcare, health research and education, as well as in the field of complementary medicine. She is Trauma-Informed and trained in Peter Levine’s body-oriented Somatic Experiencing method of healing trauma. 


Genevieve also serves on the faculty of South Mountain Community College as an Adjunct Instructor teaching Cultural Aspects of Health and Illness

Mark Coleman

Mark is an inner and outer explorer, who has devotedly studied mindfulness meditation practices for three decades. He is passionate about sharing the power of meditation and has taught mindfulness workshops and meditation retreats in six continents for the past twenty years.  Mark is a senior meditation teacher at Spirit Rock Meditation Center and holds a MA in Clinical Psychology. 

Through the Mindfulness Training Institute Mark leads Professional Mindfulness Teacher Trainings in the US and UK annually.  He founded The Mindfulness Institute, where he has brought mindfulness training programs to companies and the nonprofit sector across North America and Europe. Mark is also a trainer for  the Search Inside Yourself Leadership Institute, developed at Google and teaches on their teacher trainings. He leads wilderness meditation retreats from Alaska to Peru, taking people on inner and outdoor adventures through Awake in the Wild, and leads year-long meditation-in-nature teacher trainings in the US.

Mark is the author of three books: From Suffering to Peace: The True Promise of MindfulnessMake Peace with Your Mind: How Mindfulness and Compassion Can Help Free You from the Inner Critic and Awake in the Wild: Mindfulness in Nature as a Path of Self-Discovery.  He lives in Marin County, California and enjoys spending his free time hiking, biking and kayaking.
